Whole House Deep Retrofit
The brief for this project was to transform a leaky, cold and damp 1960’s house into a beautiful, low energy house based on passive design principles. The aim for the project was to meet the new AECB Retrofit Standard https://aecb.net/aecb-retrofit-standard/.
We dismantled the leaking sunroom extension on the rear of the house and rebuilt with a highly insulated timber frame fabric. All the existing doors and windows were replaced with energy efficient triple-glazed units. The existing walls were treated with a liquid airtightness membrane, the roof removed and sheathed in airtight boards and the whole building wrapped in wood fibre insulation. The main roof was clad in zinc and the sunroom had a green roof installed. The walls were rendered with the Baumit render system and Brimstone Ash timber cladding. We also installed a Zender MVHR unit and a Steibel Electron air source heat pump.
We were delighted to meet the requirements for the AECB standard and achieved a final airtightness result of 1.6 h-1 ach.
